The Florida Court of Appeals is the state's intermediate appellate court of last resort. It consists of three regions, Central, North and South. It has jurisdiction to review a range of administrative and trial court decisions, including appeals from Florida's state administrative agencies, circuit courts, county courts, county courts in foreclosure, juvenile courts, probate courts, and domestic relations courts. The court is composed of members selected by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Florida Senate, from a list of three nominees presented to the Governor by the Florida Judicial Nominating Commission. Judges on the court are paid a $225 monthly salary.
Florida's court of appeals is an Article V Court of record. Judges are elected to six-year terms and are selected by statewide direct popular vote, a process which began in 1998 and includes an initial retention election every four years. Judges are eligible for nonjudicial statewide office if they are reelected after the initial retention election. Florida's court of appeals is led by the Chief Justice, who presides over the court. In the event of a tie vote on an issue, the Chief Justice has the authority to break the tie. As of March 2017, the Chief Justice of the Florida Court of Appeals is Joan T. Lenard.
